Your questions, our expertise.
Choosing the right protection shouldn't be complicated. Find all the answers here about our technologies, helmet certifications, and tips for riding with complete peace of mind.
Measure the circumference of your head 1 cm above your eyebrows with a tape measure. Between 48 and 50 cm, you wear an XS; between 51 and 54 cm, an S; between 55 and 58.5 cm, an M; and between 59 and 62 cm, an L.
All VIRGO sizes have a rear adjustment system to help you get a perfect, comfortable fit.
The ABS outer shell and the EPS inner liner are the same on both versions. The MIPS layer is offset by thinner padding, so both versions fit the same.
We designed the inside of the VIRGO to fit different head shapes.
In every case, the flexible rear adjustment system should give a good fit. VIRGO also comes with pads in different sizes to fine-tune the fit as you ride.
VIRGO comes in four sizes: XS, S, M and L.
Sécurité et normes
The rear light has a built-in accelerometer. When it detects a sharp drop in speed, it automatically turns on the brake light at the back of the helmet.
With cars around, lights matter for safety during the day too. The VIRGO rear light is bright enough to be seen by drivers in daylight.
For any rider, the helmet is essential, and when the nights draw in and you ride in the dark or the rain, being seen matters. Placed at the back of the head, the light is far more visible to drivers and cannot be blocked by a bag or clothing.
With e-bikes, safety moves up a level: an e-bike reaches higher speeds more easily than a traditional unassisted bike, and some can even reach 45 km/h (27.9 mph) with electric assistance.
As e-bikes reach higher speeds, riders need a helmet designed to protect against potentially stronger impacts and to cover more of the head. That is where NTA-8776 comes in.
An NTA-8776 helmet meets the requirements of Dutch Technical Agreement (NTA) 8776, drawn up by an international project group led by NEN. It looks like a bike helmet, but it protects against higher impact speeds and covers more of the head. It combines a rigid ABS shell and an EPS liner for optimal impact protection all around the head.
For any rider, the helmet is essential, and when the nights draw in and you ride in the dark or the rain, being seen matters. The VIRGO has a powerful rear light that makes you visible from every angle. It is far more visible to drivers and cannot be blocked by a bag or clothing.
It is made of a rigid ABS shell with a protective EPS liner: protection and lightness that keep up with you without compromising your safety, your look or your performance. It meets the main international safety certifications, CPSC and EN 1078, as well as NTA-8776, the new e-bike standard that better protects speed pedelec riders.
As an option, we also added the MIPS system, which improves impact absorption in rotational collisions.
Technique
No. The VIRGO visor is made of acrylic, not glass. It does not break easily on impact and does not create micro-debris.
The front visor is made of polycarbonate, the material used for safety and sports glasses: polycarbonate lenses offer the best impact protection and are safe for the eyes in a crash.
Like any bike helmet, the VIRGO feels warm when you put it on. This is offset by the airflow while riding. In hot weather, the helmet is designed to minimize contact between the head and the shell, so heat can escape and air can cool the head.
In cold weather, the wide back of the helmet shields the head from cold air. A pair of removable ear covers can also be attached to the straps for extra protection while riding.
As with all full-face helmets, there is more inertia than with open helmets. That is why most full-face helmets use foam around the cheeks to hold the helmet in place. It keeps the helmet from shaking while riding, but makes it bulky and stuffy.
To strike a better balance, we reduced the foam on the sides and kept only two pads around the ears. The head stays in place without feeling enclosed. The rear adjustment system also keeps the back of the helmet as close as possible to the head. Together, they ensure a secure fit while riding.
Mips is a safety system that improves helmet safety in many accidents. In certain impacts, it can reduce the harmful rotational motion that would otherwise be transferred to the head.
The Mips system is a low-friction layer fitted inside the helmet. In an accident, this layer is designed to move slightly inside the helmet to redirect forces away from the head, reducing the risk of brain injury.

The VIRGO helmet weighs 550 to 750 grams with the visor and rear light attached.
For comparison, classic urban helmets weigh between 400 and 500 grams, while full-face mountain bike helmets weigh from 850 grams to over 1 kg.
The VIRGO helmet creates a new category between these two markets and offers the best of both: the lightness and comfort of open helmets with the full protection of full-face helmets.
Design et confort
The VIRGO has several external vents that bring fresh air inside the helmet for comfort while riding. Five vents at the front and four at the back draw air away from the head for maximum breathability.
Designing the VIRGO took several years. The idea was to find the right balance between a full-face helmet and a light helmet.
Dozens of versions were made to find that balance. Working with a team of engineers, the design evolved to meet the standards and pass crash tests. Ergonomics work also shaped the final result, for a product that is both safe and comfortable.
To suit different riders, we worked on several colors following the latest trends, so the helmet matches what people wear.
VIRGO comes in five colors for adults and three for children:
- Black: suits neutral, smart outfits for the working day.
- Sand: suits the latest trends and natural tones.
- White: a clean, simple take on casual style.
- Blue: suits modern, refined everyday outfits.
- Orange: for riders who want to be more visible.
Feu arrière et batterie
The VIRGO rear light battery cannot be replaced: that would require an accessible battery compartment, which would put water resistance at risk (exposed electronics).
The VIRGO rear light can be bought separately if needed.
Yes, the VIRGO rear light is waterproof to IP67.
The VIRGO has a 400 mAh rechargeable lithium-polymer battery that fully charges in about 2 hours.
Once charged, it lasts 4 to 10 hours of continuous use (night and braking detection mode). For most riders, that means charging it once a week. When the helmet is off, passive battery drain is close to zero.
A light's battery life is measured in full charge cycles, not in time. The VIRGO rear light battery is rated for about 500 cycles: depending on how often you charge it, that is 3 to 6 years of use.
